Obituary

Daniel Deshield Sterling, lovingly known as "Danny," of Mardela Springs, Maryland, passed away on August 29, 2026.

Danny was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 45 years, Melissa Sterling, and a proud father to his three daughters: Shaunna Manchester of Cedar City, Utah; Amanda Filegar and her husband, Joseph, of Mardela Springs, Maryland; and Jessica Rogers and her husband, Brad, of Millsboro, Delaware.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Norma Lee Sterling of Fruitland, Maryland, and his sisters, Norma Lou Birch of Princess Anne, Maryland, and Shelia Justis of Fruitland, Maryland. He is survived by his brother, Kip Sterling, and his wife, Debra, of Fruitland, Maryland, and his sister, Elsa Culp of Bridgeville, Delaware. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews who will forever cherish his memory.

One of the greatest joys of Danny's life was being Poppop to his grandchildren, Dominic, McKinlee, Samantha, and Bowen. He treasured every moment spent with them, and the love he had for his family was truly immeasurable.

Danny also had a lifelong passion for music. He was a remarkably gifted guitarist whose talent and love for his craft were admired by all who knew him. Music was an important part of who Danny was, bringing great joy not only to him but also to everyone fortunate enough to hear him play. Through his passion and talent, he passed the gift of music down through generations of his family, creating a treasured legacy for which they will always be grateful.

Above all, Danny's unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, guided him throughout his life. His family finds comfort and peace in knowing that he is now home in Heaven, reunited with the loved ones who went before him and able to embrace the grandchildren he did not have the opportunity to meet on this side of Heaven.

Danny will be remembered for his immeasurable love for his family, his incredible musical gift, and his steadfast faith. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished Poppop, and a deeply loved man whose presence will be missed beyond words.

A celebration of Danny's life will be held on September 4, 2026, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. at Allen Memorial Baptist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. Additional details will be shared with family and friends.
