February 9, 1940 – July 17, 2025Mary “Verna” Rosenberry, 85, of Goldsboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 17,2025. Born on February 9, 1940, in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, to Cyril and Clarice Downey, Verna lived a life full of love, dedication, and warmth that touched everyone who knew her.

Verna was a talented chef and proud business owner of the Island Inn on Kent Island, as well as Verna’s Korner Country Kitchen, where her cooking brought joy to countless visitors and locals alike. Her kitchen was more than a place of work—it was where she shared her heart through food and friendship.

Verna’s greatest love was her family. In 1959, she married her beloved husband, Bard“Sonny” Rosenberry, with whom she shared many beautiful years until his passing. She was also a devoted mother to her late son, Monty Rosenberry. She is survived by her grandchildren: Sydney, Wyatt, and Darrick Rosenberry, as well as numerous great-grandchildren.

She will be remembered for her generous spirit and her passion for cooking. Verna was a spitfire—strong-spirited, independent, and full of life. Known for her quick wit and sense of humor, even in her later years while living with Alzheimer’s, she remained truly herself.

No formal funeral service will be held. Instead, her family invites all who knew her to light a candle in her memory and reflect on the special moments they shared with her.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Verna by cooking a favorite meal, sharing it with someone you love, and remembering the joy she brought into the world.
