William Anthony Jenkins, Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 19, 2025 at Bayleigh Chase Memory Care Unit in Easton, Maryland. Just one month shy of his 90th birthday.
Born July 19, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bill graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1953 and went on to earn a BS in Metallurgy from the University of Pittsburgh in 1961 while also working days in a foundry. He enjoyed a lifetime career as a Foundry Superintendent. He retired in 1999 and moved from Smithsburg, Maryland to Royal Oak where he and his wife, Gail, lived for 23 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gail Williams Jenkins, whom he married on October 4, 1958. He is also survived by his 3 children, William A. Jenkins, Jr. (Lish); Peter Allen Jenkins (Laura); Joan Jenkins Stammnitz (Volker), and his 6 grandchildren: Caylin and Brendan Jenkins; Kelsi and Megan Jenkins; and Kai and Evie Stammnitz. He was preceded in death by his younger sister, Judith Berry, but is survived by both of his younger brothers: Richard Jenkins (Eydie) and David Jenkins (Rita).
Throughout Bill's long life he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather "Pap". He was at his happiest when he and Gail were surrounded by his kids and playing with the grandkids in the yard. He was a die hard Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan. But he loved all sports and especially enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play their games. His other passions included taking a drive on sunny Sundays in his restored 1965 356C Porsche; years playing softball with the Senior Olympics league; golfing; horseshoes; and even mowing the lawn. He volunteered for 20 years at Easton Memorial Hospital. He loved dogs, helping his kids with projects around their homes, making people laugh, drinking a cold beer (especially Iron City!), Big Band and jazz music, whistling, and watching football games or golf on Sundays.
He was the epitome of a family man. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life will be held later this year and details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Talbot Hospice at: talbothospice.org
